Course Description Life-Span Growth and Development is a study of social, emotional, cognitive and physical factors and influences of a developing human from conception to death.

HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR GRADE AT ANY TIME DURING THE SEMESTER
1. Add all of the points you have earned as of today's date, excluding any points from practice activities.
2. Request current required total course points from instructor.
3. Divide your total points by the total number of required points as of today's date.
4. For your final semester grade divide your current total by 615 or use the grade chart on page one of this syllabus.

HOW TO USE THE CHART OF REQUIRED POINTS
1. On any day of the course, divide your total course points by the total required points according to the chart to find your approximate course grade.
2. For example, if Student AB has 300 total course points on Monday Jul 11, the approximate course grade on that date for Student AB would be 300/320 = approximately 93 % or an A.
3. Another example shows if Student XY has 300 total course points on Friday Jul 15, the approximate course grade for Student XY would be 300/465 = approximately 64% or a D .
4. NOTE - WHEN YOU ARE ESTIMATING YOUR GRADE IN THIS COURSE, BE SURE TO USE THE ABOVE CHART INSTEAD OF ANY INFORMATION LISTED IN YOUR BLACKBOARD GRADE LISTING, WHICH MAY BE MISLEADING.

Welcome to Psyc 2314-73 Lifespan Psychology! This course will be an 8 week course. This course will involve the study of Life-Span Growth and Development. In this course we will explore social, emotional, cognitive and physical factors and influences on developing humans from conception to death.

In order to do your best in this course, you will need a basic level of skill in reading English.

This course is an online course. All assignments, projects, quizzes, exams and other course activities will be completed online. In order to complete this course you will need a reliable computer with a reliable connection to the internet in order to complete the course activities.

If you do not have a computer with reliable connection to the internet, you will need to arrange access to these resources. You should have basic computer-related skills as described in Step Five of the Start Here section of the course (Technical Requirements for the Course).

Because this course is a fully online course, you will need computer-related skills and a reliable connection to the internet.

HOW TO USE THE CHART OF REQUIRED POINTS
1. On any day of the course, divide your total course points by the total required points according to the chart to find your approximate course grade.
2. For example, if Student AB has 300 total course points on Monday Jul 11, the approximate course grade on that date for Student AB would be 300/320 = approximately 93 % or an A.
3. Another example shows if Student XY has 300 total course points on Friday Jul 15, the approximate course grade for Student XY would be 300/465 = approximately 64% or a D .

REQUIRED SPECIAL RQA ASSIGNMENTS

1. REQUIRED ELEMENT: There will be 5 required special rqa assignments during the semester.

2. REQUIRED ELEMENT: For each special assignment, you will create a set of 10 review questions with separate answers for each question from content which you select from assigned course reading materials.

3. You may use any style of review question, including yes-no, true-false, multiple choice with a minimum of 2 answer options, completion, short answer or essay.

4. REQUIRED ELEMENT: The content for these review questions can come from any chapter in the text, study guide, lecture notes or from a psychology film you watch online.

5. REQUIRED ELEMENT:You MUST turn in your required special rqa assignments electronically using the online section of the course or course email.

7. REQUIRED ELEMENT: Make sure to place a title at the beginning of your question and answer set, using the words required special rqa assignment and the number of the special assignment you are submitting.

8. REQUIRED ELEMENT: Be sure to include a complete heading near the beginning of your question and answer set, including your full name (first and last), course name and number, section number, and the date you complete the activity.

9. Credit available for completing each of the 5 special assignments will be 10 points.

10. REQUIRED ELEMENT: Each item in the required special rqa assignments must have a unique number, such as 1,2,3, etc.

REQUIRED REGULAR RQA ASSIGNMENTS:

1. REQUIRED ELEMENT: There will be 4 regular assignments the credit for which will depend on how many text chapters are associated with the assignment.

2. A list of the assigned chapters is in the course outline, elsewhere in this syllabus.

3. REQUIRED ELEMENT: Each regular assignment will consist of review items with separate answers from the assigned reading in the course.

4. For example, Regular Assignment 1 will consist of 20 review items, 5 items each from chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 in the text.

5. REQUIRED ELEMENT: All required regular rqa assignments must have appropriate chapter subtitles, identifying the chapters from which the content for the review items was taken.

6. For example, Regular Assignment 1 should have subtitles for review items taken from Chapter 1,2,3 and 4 corresponding to each chapter subsection.

7. REQUIRED ELEMENT: Each required regular rqa assignment should have a complete heading, including student’s name, course name (psyc), section number and the date the assignment was completed on each separate page, regardless of whether the pages are stapled together, if the assignment is turned in on paper.

8. The review items in the required regular rqa assignments may be of any style including yes/no, true/false, multiple choice with at least two answer options, completion, short answer or essay.

9. If you complete all of these regular assignments satisfactorily, you will receive a total of 85 points.

10. REQUIRED ELEMENT: This work must be typed (if turned in on paper) or submitted electronically to receive credit.

11. No late work will be accepted for maximum credit EXCEPT BY INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL. Late work, if accepted, will receive a maximum credit of 1 point.

Copyright Violations Some material in this course may be copyrighted. They may be used only for instructional purposes this semester, by students enrolled in this course. These materials are being used fairly and legally. No one may distribute or share these copyrighted materials in any medium or format with anyone outside this class, including publishing essays with copyrighted material, uploading copyrighted material to Facebook or YouTube, or painting or performing copyrighted material for public display.

Copyright violation is not the same thing as plagiarism. Plagiarism is intellectual dishonesty. Offenses of plagiarism result in lower grades or failing scores, and professors and the college strictly enforce plagiarism rules. There is never any acceptable use of plagiarism. Copyright violation is a legal offense, punishable by large fines and penalties.

Copyrighted material can be used if permission from the material’s creator is obtained, or if its use meets the standards of fair use in an educational setting. For example, a student can quote a line from Shakespeare’s Hamlet in a report without violating copyright but still be guilty of plagiarism if the quotation is not properly documented.

Assessment Statement Assessment is a process by which LSCPA can help you learn better and gauge the level of progress you have made to attain knowledge, skills, beliefs, and values. It also helps your professors understand how to improve teaching and testing methods in your classes, and it helps each department understand and improve degree and certificate programs.

Periodically LSC-PA will collect assessment data for research and reporting purposes, including statistical data and sometimes copies of your work. Be assured that all material the college uses for assessment purposes will be kept confidential. To ensure anonymity, your name will be removed from any material we use for assessment purposes, including video-recorded performances, speeches, and projects.

If you object to allowing LSC-PA to use your material for assessment purposes, submit a letter stating so to your professor by the 12th class day. You will still be required to participate in whatever assessments are being done; we just won’t use your data.

What’s the difference between assessment and grades? The grades you get on papers, projects, speeches, and assignments are specific types of focused assessment. LSC-PA’s assessment efforts include class grades, surveys, standardized tests, and other tools.
Privacy Notice Federal privacy laws apply to college students. This means that college employees, including instructors, cannot divulge information to third parties, including parents and legal guardians of students. Even if the students are minors, information about their college work cannot be shared with anyone except in very limited circumstances.

Anyone requesting information about a student should be referred to the Registrar. Instructors will be notified in writing by that Office about what information may be released and to whom.

Please remember that releasing private information about a student, however innocuous it may seem, can be a violation of federal law, with very serious consequences.

Circumstances under which information may be released:

An adult student may submit, to the Registrar, a handwritten, signed note granting permission for release of information. The note must specify what information may be divulged, and it must specify the name of the person to whom the information may be given.

A parent or guardian may be given access to information about a student by providing a copy of a filed tax return that shows that the student was listed as a dependent of that parent or guardian. The tax return must be for last complete tax year. Again, this documentation must be submitted to the Registrar’s Office.

A parent or guardian may be given access to information about a student if the student logs on to My.LamarPA.edu and sends an email to the Registrar granting permission. The email must specify what information may be given and the name of the person to whom it may be given.

Co-enrollment students are protected by the same privacy laws as adult students.

Degree Plan Evaluation A Degree Plan Evaluation will help you determine which classes you need to complete your program.

  1. Sign in to your my.lamarpa.edu account.

  2. Click on the “My Services” tab.

  3. Click on the “Student” tab.

  6. Select the term you are planning on registering for (i.e. Summer I, Summer II, Fall, or Spring)

  7. Verify that the Curriculum Information (your MAJOR) is correct

  10. Click on the Generate Request button.
